The handle dimensions, balance, and weight are tailored to your individual anatomy and the intended use of the knife. You'll be guided through the details such as wood selection for the handle, fastener materials, spine thickness, and blade length.

I source the steel domestically, then forge and finish the blade by hand in my backyard shop. The handle wood is sourced from small, family-run businesses in AZ, MT (women-owned), and WI, and I make the leather sheaths by hand, custom fit to each knife — including dying and treating the untanned leather. How it Works
- Submit your custom knife request
To get started, fill out the contact form below or email the maker directly at rysmithknives@gmail.com. - Talk to the maker
Each order begins with a conversation — how you'll use your knife, what fits your hand, and what feels right. This is typically a phone call, but email works, too. - Finalizing the details
After your initial conversation, you'll receive an email with specifications and price. You can still make updates at this time. Once the design is finalized, a deposit of 50% is due before your build gets underway. - The forging begins
Your knife is purpose-built and customized to your grip, reach, and needs — no two are alike. - The best part
Once your knife is finished, you'll receive photos via email or text. The balance is due at this time and your knife ships free to your door.
